What is Honda Sensing?

When a person is behind the wheel of a motor vehicle, the most important function they must perform is staying aware of their surroundings while simultaneously keeping the vehicle under control. With that said, Honda is committed to providing its customers with the safest possible vehicles it can produce. In addition to providing vehicles  with excellent safety scores, Honda has been working on the Honda Sensing system to help drivers stay out of accidents by supplementing their situational awareness. So, What is Honda Sensing? 

Honda Sensing® is an exclusive intelligent suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies designed to alert you to things you might miss while driving. It is made up of different systems that work together in a number of ways to help drivers remain safe while driving. The individual elements of Honda Sensing include Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Road Departure Mitigation System, and Collision Mitigation Braking System.

Lane Keeping Assist: The Lane Keeping Assist adjusts steering to help you keep centered in a detected lane. This system uses a camera mounted behind the rear view mirror of equipped Honda vehicles. From there, the camera reads markings on the road including painted lines, installed dots and cat’s eyes to determine the vehicle’s position.

Adaptive Cruise Control: When traveling on the highway way, one of the most important things a driver must do is maintain a safe distance between them and the vehicle ahead. Adaptive Cruise Control helps to maintain a set following interval behind detected vehicles and has been developed as a sophisticated convenience feature to help take some of the pressure off of the drive. It is important to note that Adaptive Cruise Control is not to be considered a safety feature. Once the system is properly set, the system can lightly apply the brakes in needed instances but it is not built to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. Drivers will be able to activate and control the settings for Adaptive Cruise Control system from steering wheel mounted controls.

Road Departure Mitigation System: Adjusts steering and braking if you cross detected lanes without signaling. This system alerts and helps to assist you when the system detects a possibility of your vehicle unintentionally crossing over detected lane markings and/or leaving the roadway altogether.

Collision Mitigation Braking System: This is the system that adds the extra layer of security to the rest of the systems of Honda Sensing by applying brake pressure when an unavoidable collision is determined.
